Peterborough City Council continues its review of the Draft 2025 Budget with meetings scheduled for today and tomorrow.
The General Committee sessions will run from 9am to 5pm in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 500 George St. N. These meetings are open to the public and will be streamed live at peterborough.ca/WatchCouncil.
Council recently heard from public delegations on the Draft 2025 Budget during a meeting on November 12th. Following that input, Council will now review the budget documents, discuss potential recommendations, and consider adjustments before the final budget adoption on December 9th.
The Draft 2025 Budget proposes a 7.8% increase in rates to maintain services and fund key infrastructure projects. If approved, this increase would mean an additional $12.13 per month for every $100,000 of property assessment. The budget includes $411 million in operating expenses, with $185.9 million funded by property taxes, and $147.4 million allocated for 174 capital projects, including the Transit Garage Replacement and road work on Brealey Drive.
Council has also identified areas for potential spending reductions to meet a 5% all-inclusive rate increase, in line with Council’s direction.
