The Petes game against the Oshawa Generals on February 1 will also mark the 16th edition of Pink In The Rink in support of cancer research.
Last season, the Petes Pink in the Rink Campaign surpassed the $1 million mark in funds raised for cancer research over the 15 year history of the event. This year, the team has announced a fundraising goal of $50,000, continuing the OHL’s biggest ongoing fundraiser for another season.
The recipients this year will be the Pedal For Hope team that has been riding to schools for 21 years, raising money and awareness in the battle of pediatric cancer and provides much needed support to families and children coping with a cancer diagnosis, as well as young adults who have surpassed their diagnosis as they transition into adulthood.
Staff Sgt John Townsend has been a part of the team since day 1
Townsend admits that the Pedal For Hope initiative took a bit of a setback since Covid
He says he’s proud to be able to put the team back in the forefront thanks to the support of the Petes
New OHL Commissioner Bryan Crawford was also on hand for the announcement and says Pink In The Rink falls firmly in the plans the league has to ensure all OHL teams are playing a big role in their individual markets
The Petes say that the Pink in the Rink Campaign will be supported by a number of activations this year. This includes Pink in the Rink t-shirts, an in-person silent auction during the game, and an in-person game worn jersey auction that will take place on the ice post game. The Pink in the Rink game jersey design will be released to the public in the coming weeks.
