Celebrating the holiday season can be merry and bright when it’s managed right.
That’s the word from the Five Counties Children’s Centre, which says the stress associated with what is a busy time of year throw things off the rails quickly for children.
Five Counties occupational therapist Nicole Captain says despite feeling pressured to have the picture-perfect Hallmark film holiday, parents and caregivers can manage by keeping things simple, by sticking to structure, by going back to basics and by being flexible.
Kids, she notes, feel the stress of adults in their life but there ways to counter that.
Captain adds connection is key in terms of putting children at ease when it seems all around them is out of control.
