The Peterborough Regional Airport could soon see enhanced flight services following NAV CANADA’s Level of Service Study. This study, released earlier this week, outlines plans for a new Flight Service Station at the airport, subject to approval from Transport Canada after a 60-day public review period.
If approved, the new services would include 15 hours of air traffic management per day, from 6am to 9pm, and the installation of an Automatic Terminal Information Service (ATIS). The plan also proposes surveillance systems for aircraft movements within specific areas around the airport, enhancing safety and monitoring capabilities.
The recommendations would support both current and future airport activity, with officials stating that the initiative aligns with the city’s long-term growth strategy, which positions the airport as a key regional economic hub
The Peterborough Regional Airport already plays a crucial role in the local aerospace industry, hosting more than 20 businesses and providing jobs for around 500 people. With its capacity to accommodate larger aircraft, including the Boeing 737, the airport is poised to continue growing as a vital part of the region’s economy.
The public review period for the proposed air traffic services ends February 18th.
