The Ontario Provincial Police are asking the public for assistance after responding to a distressing call, when a person was reported to be screaming for help near the Trent Severn Waterway in Hastings.
At approximately 4:36 p.m. on December 26th, officers were alerted to a person calling out for help from the north side of the Trent Severn Waterway, near Old Orchard Road. Local fire services and paramedics quickly joined the OPP in the search for the source of the distress.
Despite an extensive search involving the OPP Emergency Response Team and an OPP Aviation Helicopter, no sign of the person in distress was found. Officers combed the surrounding area, canvassing the neighbourhood and conducting a thorough search that continued into the evening. By 9:30 p.m., the search was called off with no results.
The OPP are continuing their investigation into the incident and are asking anyone with information to come forward. Anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual around the time of the incident is urged to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and reference occurrence E241694138.
