The Peterborough Agricultural Society’s future hangs in the balance as its Board of Directors prepares to step down at the end of this term. A pivotal Annual General Membership meeting is scheduled for January 15th at 7 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 52 on Lansdowne Street West.
The 180-year-old organization, known for its longstanding contributions to Peterborough’s agricultural heritage, has faced significant challenges, including the loss of its home at Morrow Park earlier this year. Without new volunteers stepping up to join the Board, the Society will begin the process of shutting down permanently.
“This is a critical moment for the Peterborough Agricultural Society,” said Louise Dobbin, General Manager. “The current Board has faced numerous challenges, and we are calling on the community to rally behind us. Without enough committed individuals to lead, the organization cannot continue, and we risk losing this historic Society for good.”
Founded in 1844, the Society is best known for the Peterborough Exhibition, a beloved event promoting agricultural education and community engagement. The Board is seeking volunteers with expertise in areas like governance, finance, strategic planning, and event management.
Residents of Peterborough County or the City of Peterborough interested in helping shape the Society’s future can attend the meeting or contact GeneralManager@PeterboroughAg.ca for more information.
