A well-known pillar in the community has died.
Carl Oake, founder of Carl Oake Century 21 United Realty, lost his battle with cancer at the age of 79 on Thursday.
Oake was a member of the Peterborough Pathway of Fame, was involved in many humanitarian initiatives. In 2023, he was honoured with the Rotary Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of all of his efforts with Rotary and commitment to our community.
The Adam Scott grad is perhaps best known in some circles for starting of the ‘Carl Oake Rotary Swimathon’ which has been a yearly fundraiser since 1987. The swim has raised more than $1.4 million for local causes since it was established.
Former President and CEO of the Peterborough & the Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce, Stu Harrison, posted online that ‘the community has lost an icon’.
