The Peterborough Theatre Guild will open the second half of its 2024-25 season January 24th with the staging of a charming tale of inhibition overcome by love.
Written by award-winning playwright John Patrick Stanley and set it rural Ireland, Outside Mullingar centres around Anthony and Rosemary, two introverted misfits who ultimately discover it’s never too late to take a chance on love. The result, according to the New York Times, is ‘a Valentine to the wonder and weirdness of love.’
Co-produced by Pat Hooper and Bob Campbell, the play is being directed by Jerry Allen. He says the storyline is not unlike that of Moonstruck, which was also written by Stanley, but with a Gaelic twist.
Allen, who has directed numerous guild plays, many of which have had large casts, is delighted to work with a smaller number of actors.
Allen says a couple of things drew him to the script.
Outside Mullingar runs January 24th to February 8th at The Guild Hall on Rogers Street. For curtain times and to order tickets, visit www.peterboroughtheatreguild.com.
