Sergeant Kerry Schmidt confirmed that 1,208 impaired driving charges were laid across the province during the campaign, which ran throughout the festive season.
He also shared that there were 155 roadside Warn Range Suspensions issued to drivers making poor decisions behind the wheel.
Schmidt emphasized that while this represents a decrease in alcohol and drug-related fatalities compared to last year, 49 people still lost their lives in such collisions in 2024. He pointed out that the number remains “too many” and stressed the importance of ongoing efforts.
In addition to the charges, OPP officers carried out 9,268 RIDE checkpoints across Ontario, including several in the local area, as part of their continued commitment to road safety. The campaign’s work does not end with the holiday season, as RIDE initiatives will continue throughout the year.
The OPP are urging all drivers to make safe choices, as impaired driving remains a significant threat to road safety.
