It didn’t take long for the first impaired driving charge to be laid in 2025 by Peterborough County OPP.
On Wednesday January 1st, shortly before 8:30am, a 911 call was received by an individual stating his friend was ‘overdosing on mushrooms’. During the call, the individual who was the driver of their vehicle, admitted to also having consumed ‘mushrooms’.
Officers arrived on scene to find EMS already there and assessing one person. Officers approached the driver of the vehicle and after a brief conversation with the driver, the officer made a demand for the Approved Screening Device. The driver complied with the demand and provided a sample of their breath resulting in a reading of ‘Fail’, at which point they were arrested.
A 28-year-old from Peterborough was arrested and charged with:
ยท Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days and will appear in court on January 28th.
