A 21-year-old Peterborough man is facing a charge of public mischief after police determined he intentionally filed a false report about a stolen vehicle.
According to the Peterborough Police Service, officers received a report on Dec. 26th, that a vehicle had been stolen from a parking lot while the man was at work. However, a subsequent investigation revealed that the claim was deliberately fabricated.
The man was arrested and charged with public mischief. He has been released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 18th.
Police are using the incident as an opportunity to remind residents that filing a false police report is a criminal offence and can lead to charges.
