While the next Ontario provincial election isn’t scheduled until June 2026, the Peterborough-Kawartha Liberal riding association will nominate its candidate tonight at Market Hall.
Warsaw resident Adam Hopkins, a senior vice-president with the First Nations Technical Institute in Deseronto, will carry the Liberal banner locally. He’ll go head-to-head against incumbent Conservative MPP Dave Smith, who was acclaimed back in November.
Prior to working at the First Nations Technical Institute, Hopkins graduated from Trent’s Indigenous Studies program and then served in various roles with the university’s First Peoples House of Learning. He also holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Queen’s University. As this new chapter unfolds, Hopkins is excited to be in the mix.
Asked if he’s concerned about any backlash against him or the Liberal party in light of recent events at the federal Liberal level, Hopkins says he’s staying focused on what he’s hearing from local residents.
Hopkins says should a provincial election will be called early, he and his team are sitting on go.
