Jen Deck will be acclaimed January 25th as the Peterborough-Kawartha provincial NDP candidate, reprising her candidacy in the 2022 Ontario election.
An elementary school teacher, Deck has been president of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario occasional teachers local since 2017.
In 2022, Deck finished third behind Liberal candidate Greg Dempsey and incumbent Progressive Conservative candidate Dave Smith, who has announced he will seek re-election. She says while her initial foray into politics brought a lot of unknowns, she is more aware of, and better prepared for, what this campaign will bring.
Audio PlayerDeck says her motivation for seeking election is anchored in what she has experienced “trying to solve the problems” as part of her union work.
Audio PlayerWhile acknowledging that polls show the Progressive Conservatives to be in a good place, Deck says polling “doesn’t accurately measure the sentiment out there.”
Audio PlayerDeck says should a provincial election be called early, she’s ready to go, noting the local NDP riding association is well organized.
