From the Gulf of America, to Mount McKinley to planting a flag on Mars – the inauguration address from U.S. President Donald Trump covered a lot of priorities for his administration.
Professor of Political Studies and International Development Studies at Trent, Dr. Hasmet Uluorta, was watching closely and says he’s already noticed a different tenor from Trump’s previous time at the White House.
Trump said late Monday evening that he’s thinking about hitting Canada and Mexico with tariffs on February 1st. In response, federal Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc said Ottawa is ready and has responses prepared for different scenarios.
Uluorta says despite some planned countermeasures, Canada is in tough if tariffs do become a reality.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took time to congratulate the 47th U.S. President, saying Canada and the U.S. have the world’s most successful economic partnership. He added that he looks forward to working with President Trump, his administration, members of the United States Congress, and officials at the state and local levels ‘to deliver prosperity for our peoples — while protecting and defending the interests of Canadians’.
