The Peterborough Petes are preparing for another busy weekend, with three games in three nights on the horizon, beginning tonight at home against the Flint Firebirds.
After a big win over the Oshawa Generals last week, the team will enter this tough stretch with some momentum as they get set to face off against some strong Western Conference opponents.
According to Petes Head Coach Rob Wilson, discipline, which has been a point of focus all season, will be key once again this weekend. He says in order to be successful, they need to limit their trips to the penalty box.
Audio PlayerWilson also stressed the importance of staying focused in close games, especially in the third period. He acknowledges that while the team has struggled when leading or tied late, they continue to improve.
Audio PlayerLooking ahead to tonight’s opponent, Wilson is wary of Flint’s scoring ability, especially after a recent 5-1 win over the Windsor Spitfires, but says when the Petes control the game and avoid penalties, they have a good chance to compete with any team.
Audio PlayerAfter hosting Flint tonight, who have lost their last two games following that win over Windsor, the Petes will hit the road to take on the CHL’s number one ranked London Knights tomorrow before closing out their weekend in Sarnia on Saturday.
Acknowledging that this will be a difficult road trip, Wilson says they’ll be focused on the task at hand and prepared to battle for a win in each game.
