Local business issues will take centre stage at two upcoming events ahead of the Ontario election, giving voters and entrepreneurs a chance to hear directly from candidates.
The Peterborough and the Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce is partnering with several local organizations, including the Peterborough and The Kawarthas Home Builders Association, Central Lakes Association of Realtors, the Peterborough Downtown Business Improvement Area, Peterborough and District Construction Association, and YourTV, to host an All-Candidates Provincial Election Business Issues Debate on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Market Hall (140 Charlotte St.).
The debate, running from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.), will focus on economic and business-related concerns. Questions can be submitted in advance by emailing joel@pkchamber.ca, with written submissions also accepted at the event. The debate will be recorded and broadcast on YourTV.
For those seeking a more personal interaction, the Chamber and its partners will also host a Coffee with the Candidates event on Thursday, Feb. 13, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., at the Lakefield Community Centre (20 Concession St.). This informal gathering offers attendees a chance to engage directly with candidates in a conversational setting.
“Businesses in our community are facing significant economic challenges, making it essential for our elected leaders to understand both the repercussions and the opportunities that come with them,” said Gail Moorhouse, Interim President and CEO of the Peterborough and the Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce. “The debate and meet-and-greet events will provide opportunities to engage in meaningful discussions and prepare to cast their ballots.”
Both events are open to the public and free to attend.
