The City of Peterborough remains under Significant Weather Event declaration and City officials say that some services are now going to impacted.
They say that arenas and recreation facilities will be closing at 5 p.m. due to the weather including all arenas and community centres, including the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre. All programs at the recreation facilities that were scheduled after 5 p.m. have been cancelled with registered participants receiving notification of cancellations.
Recreation facilities are currently expected to open as scheduled tomorrow.
Peterborough Transit continues to provide service; however, it has adjusted routes due to weather conditions. Those adjustments can be found here
The Art Gallery of Peterborough did not open today and will re-open on Wednesday morning.
Peterborough Museum and Archives is closed due to the weather and is expected to re-open tomorrow at noon.
Public Works snow clearing crews have been deployed and will continue throughout the night and during the day tomorrow to address streets, sidewalks and trails. Snow clearing is currently focused on arterial and collector routes. All 16 plows, nine sidewalk routes and one trail unit will be working overnight to clear routes.
Officials remind motorists that Public Works is managing hours of deployment for staffing to ensure safety for employees according to regulations for the use of heavy machinery for snow clearing operations and that from December 1 to April 1, parking is prohibited on all City streets from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. to allow for quicker snow clearing at a lower cost because crews will not have to return to areas where vehicles were parked. The penalty for a violation is $35.
During a snowstorm, when snow-clearing operations are underway, parking is prohibited on all City streets between midnight and 8 a.m. The penalty for violating this By-Law is $80 and vehicles may be towed.
Free overnight parking is available at all municipal lots, the King Street Parkade and the Simcoe Parking Garage. Those parking overnight at either parking garage can use the gate arm ticket for a free transit trip home.
