Mayor Jeff Leal says his exercising Strong Mayor Powers to expediate a Peterborough transitional housing development speaks to the importance of the project in addressing an urgent need.

Earlier this month, Mayor Jeff Leal invoked his provincially-granted Strong Mayor Powers to fast track Brock Mission’s 52-unit transitional housing project at 738 Chemong Road, asking city staff to quickly prepare two related site plan and zoning recommendations for consideration at this Monday’s general committee meeting.

Mayor Leal says if there was ever a time to exercise Strong Mayor Powers, this is it.

Mayor Leal says there’s a significant shortfall in transitional housing that needs to be addressed, and addressed soon.

Mayor Leal adds Brock Mission’s impressive track record as a longtime responsible provider of shelter and services at Cameron House heightens his confidence in the project’s success.
