A 76-year-old man from Lakefield was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre following a serious collision on Highway 7.
Emergency crews, including members of the Peterborough County OPP, responded to the scene between Keene Road and Burnham Line on Friday.
According to police, the collision occurred when an eastbound tractor trailer crashed into the driver’s side of an SUV attempting to cross over to the westbound lanes from a business on the south side of the highway. The impact caused the driver of the SUV to be ejected from the vehicle. Witnesses immediately assisted the injured driver until EMS and Fire personnel arrived.
The Lakefield man was transported to a local hospital before being airlifted by ORNGE Air to a trauma centre in Toronto.
Highway 7 was closed for several hours while police, including officers trained in collision reconstruction, conducted an investigation and documented the scene. The road reopened around 11:00 p.m.
The OPP is asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dash camera or surveillance footage to contact the Peterborough County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
