Peterborough City Council is set to advise Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Canada that Rogers Communications has completed the required consultation for a proposed 30-metre telecommunications tower at 780 Argyle Street.
The city deferred its decision in August to allow further consultation with Rowan Tree Children’s School, a new tenant at the site. Parents raised concerns about potential health effects of the tower, but a third-party study commissioned by Rogers determined that exposure levels would be below 11% of the allowable limits set by the federal safety standards.
The tower is planned to address network gaps in the Auburn Street and Parkhill Road area. A search for a suitable municipally-owned site was unsuccessful, leading to the selection of the Argyle Street location.
Council’s report confirms that Rogers followed the city’s Telecommunications Structures Policy and Procedure, including enhanced public consultation. Pending council’s direction, the city will submit its findings to ISED Canada for final consideration.
The full report can be found on the city’s website.
