The Peterborough Peace Council is set to hold its final Vigil for Peace on March 31, marking the end of a decade-long tradition.
Since 2015, the group has gathered at the corner of George and McDonnel streets on the last Sunday of each month, standing in solidarity for peace and justice—rain or shine. Over the years, the vigils have recognized global conflicts, the discovery of unmarked graves at residential schools, environmental concerns, and community struggles.
The 120th and final vigil will take place from noon to 1 pm, featuring the council’s signature peace messages and a circle for reflection. The group now plans to shift its focus to new initiatives, including teach-ins, vigils, and community actions.
A planning meeting will be held at Sadleir House on April 13 for those interested in shaping the council’s future work.
