As voters get set to go to the polls in a snap federal election, the makeup of both our riding and those surrounding us are going to look a little different than the last few times to the ballot box.
For starters, our riding is now simply ‘Peterborough’ and not Peterborough-Kawartha federally. Following the 2022 Canadian federal electoral redistribution, this riding was renamed and it regained all of the City of Peterborough as well as Otonabee-South Monaghan, Asphodel-Norwood and Hiawatha First Nation from Northumberland-Peterborough South. Meanwhile, it lost Trent Lakes and North Kawartha.
According to the latest voter data, the Peterborough Riding has just over 90,000 electors. So far, official candidates in the riding are: Conservative Michelle Ferreri, Liberal Emma Harrison and Heather Ray of the NDP.
Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock is now ‘Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes’ and consists of: the City of Kawartha Lakes; the municipalities of Dysart et al and Highlands East; the Municipality of Trent Lakes, excepting the islands of the Curve Lake Indian Reserve No. 35A; and the townships of Algonquin Highlands, Cavan Monaghan, North Kawartha and Minden Hills.
To the south, Northumberland-Peterborough South is now ‘Northumberland-Clarke’. Is is made up of the Town of Cobourg; the municipalities of Brighton, Port Hope and Trent Hills; a part of the Municipality of Clarington; the townships of Alnwick/Haldimand, Cramahe and Hamilton; and the Alderville First Nation Indian Reserve.
