The Women’s Major Series Lacrosse has selected Peterborough as the host city for its 2025 Provincial Championship, set to take place from August 15th to 17th.
The tournament will bring together 10 teams from across Ontario for three days of senior-level box lacrosse, culminating in the crowning of a provincial champion. Games will be played at two city arenas: the Peterborough Memorial Centre, the city’s premier sports and event facility, and the Kinsmen Civic Centre.
“Women’s Major Series Lacrosse Provincial Championship is an exciting opportunity to showcase the incredible talent in women’s lacrosse, including our hometown Peterborough Lakers, and highlight Peterborough’s reputation as a premier lacrosse destination,” said Peterborough City Councillors Lesley Parnell and Alex Bierk, co-chairs of Community Services.
The WMSL is Canada’s top competitive women’s box lacrosse league, featuring 10 teams and over 150 athletes. The Peterborough WMSL Lakers, one of the league’s newest teams, finished fourth in their inaugural season in 2024.
Tournament events will include a welcome banquet on Aug. 15, and attendees will have the opportunity to explore Peterborough’s attractions, restaurants, and summer festivals.
“Peterborough has a deep-rooted lacrosse culture, from minor leagues to the 18-time Mann Cup champion Peterborough Lakers,” said WMSL assistant commissioner Victoria Clark. “We are thrilled to bring this premier event to the community and to further showcase the talent of women’s box lacrosse.”
The event aligns with Peterborough Tourism’s focus on sport tourism, which brings economic benefits through facility bookings, accommodations, and increased exposure for local businesses.
The 2025 WMSL season begins on May 31, with the championship tournament in August. Updates will be available at womensmajorseries.ca and on WMSL’s social media channels. Ticketing details will be released through the Peterborough Memorial Centre box office at a later date.
