Due to widespread power outages, the City of Peterborough has declared a State of Emergency and Trent University is cancelling classes at Symons Campus and Traill College in Peterborough on Monday, March 31.
While residences remain open, the Athletics Centre, Bata Library and other on-campus facilities will be closed. Staff and faculty who are not required to be on campus are asked to stay at home and work remotely where possible. Classes at Trent Durham GTA will proceed as usual.
Those in residence are being supported by Housing and Food Services. Residence dons are on-site with wellness checks and student residents may visit service centres that have been set up at the Colleges. Students in residence should look for posters around campus with updates and information as digital and cell communication are a challenge.
Staff from Campus Safety are patrolling campus and working to respond to calls as quickly as possible.
Ice-clearing crews are continuing clean-up operations on campus but residents are advised to stay indoors where possible.
The City has set up warming and reception centres at three locations in Peterborough: https://www.peterborough.ca/en/news/city-of-peterborough-declares-significant-weather-event.aspx
Campus Safety can be reached at 705-748-1333, though service to outside callers may be intermittent due to the power outage. Please leave a message. For emergencies, call 911.
