It will take several days to restore power to all customers.
That is the latest update from Hydro One. Officials say crews have restored power to more than 358,000 customers since the start of the storm on Friday. Crews continue to be mobilized from other areas to support restoration in hardest hit areas.
Peterborough-Kawartha MPP Dave Smith says although the worst weather is behind us, you still have to be careful during the clean-up process.
Audio PlayerThe estimated time of restoration for each outage has been updated to reflect current conditions so that customers can make the right decision for their family based on the latest information.
As a comparison, the last time we saw a storm with this impact would be the derecho – but officials say damage was more severe, and more customers were out but that would be the closest comparison. Smith adds this storm really left its mark.
Audio PlayerWe have a number of easy-to-use outage tools available for customers to report their power outage and to stay up to date. This includes reporting an outage by texting 92887 (WATTS) and visiting the outage map. It’s critical that customers and the public stay safe by remaining far away from fallen power lines. Remain at least 10 meters back and report fallen lines to Hydro One.
The risk of flooding continues. If flooding occurs at home and water starts to reach electrical outlets, baseboard heaters or furnace, customers should call us at 1-800-434-1235 to have power safely turned off. Do not enter any flooded areas, such as the basement, until power is disconnected.
