Enbridge Gas Ontario is stepping up to support Peterborough residents affected by the recent ice storm by offering a free hot meal at a local warming centre.
The company’s mobile kitchen will be stationed in the parking lot of the Miskin Law Community Complex at 271 Lansdowne St. W., serving meals from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2. The initiative aims to assist residents dealing with prolonged power outages, as well as first responders, utility workers, and community members.
“Thank you to Enbridge Gas for stepping up to support our community,” said Mayor Jeff Leal. “Peterborough residents have been dealing with extended power outages, damage from the ice storm, and disruption in their lives. Providing a free, hot meal is a nice way to give a bit of relief to residents during this difficult time.”
The Enbridge Gas food truck, recognizable by its bright yellow exterior, will serve one meal item per person, with the capacity to provide up to 500 meals.
Meanwhile, local organizations continue to provide critical support to those in need. The Salvation Army has been distributing food at the Healthy Planet Arena warming centre at 911 Monaghan Rd. throughout the week. The Ontario Search and Rescue Volunteer Association has also mobilized volunteers to conduct wellness checks, delivering food boxes from Kawartha Food Share to vulnerable residents still without power.
Warming centres remain open across the city to provide shelter and resources to those affected. As of Wednesday, April 2, the following locations will be available until 11 p.m.:
-
Healthy Planet Arena, banquet hall (911 Monaghan Rd.) – An update will be provided by midday Wednesday regarding the availability of overnight accommodations.
-
Miskin Law Community Complex (271 Lansdowne St. W.)
-
Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre (775 Brealey Dr.)
Residents in need of support are encouraged to visit these locations for warmth, food, and other essential services as recovery efforts continue.
