Warming centres in the City of Peterborough remain open for residents of both the city and county who are still without power following last week’s severe ice storm.
Hydro One crews continue restoration efforts across affected areas, but many homes remain in the dark.
The City’s three warming centres will remain open through Friday, April 4, providing residents with heat, showers, and food in partnership with local organizations. The locations and hours of operation are as follows:
-
Healthy Planet Arena, banquet hall (911 Monaghan Rd.) – Open for both daytime and overnight use, with operations running until at least 9 a.m. on Friday, April 4. The City will provide an update on a potential overnight warming centre beyond that date if required.
-
Miskin Law Community Complex (271 Lansdowne St. W.) – Open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. through Friday, April 4.
-
Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre (775 Brealey Dr.) – Open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. through Friday, April 4.
Hot meals continue to be provided by community partners, including the Salvation Army, at the Healthy Planet Arena. Residents are encouraged to check on their neighbours and loved ones, particularly those who may need assistance.
Transit and Public Services Update
Peterborough Transit resumed full service on Wednesday, April 2, though some routes are detouring to avoid fallen tree debris. The Link transit service to Curve Lake First Nation and Selwyn Township is also operational.
A warming bus is stationed at 486 Donegal St. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or until power is restored. For transit updates, residents can check @ptbo_transit on X (formerly Twitter) and Peterborough Transit Service Alerts on Facebook.
The following city facilities are open for regular hours on April 2:
-
Social Services office (178 Charlotte St.)
-
Peterborough Public Library
-
Peterborough Museum and Archives
Recreation facilities, including arenas, pools, and community centres, are returning to full operations as of noon on Wednesday, April 2.
However, the Art Gallery of Peterborough (250 Crescent St.) and the Provincial Offences Office (99 Simcoe St.) are closed for the day.
Storm Recovery Efforts Continue
-
Curbside garbage, green bin, and yard waste collection are proceeding as scheduled this week.
-
Public Works crews are actively clearing downed trees and addressing hazardous conditions on roads and sidewalks.
-
All city parks remain closed due to the risk of falling tree limbs from ice accumulation.
Residents are urged to use caution when traveling and to avoid wooded areas where possible.
