A hydro worker restoring power in Peterborough County was threatened by a frustrated resident, prompting a response by the Ontario Provincial Police.
According to the Peterborough County OPP, officers were called on April 2nd by a member of a power restoration crew who reported being threatened by an unknown individual. The complainant told police they were parked at the side of the road completing paperwork when a dark-coloured SUV stopped beside them. The driver allegedly stated that if their power was not restored by that evening, they would come after the worker to cause them harm.
While the hydro worker did not wish to proceed with charges, they reported the incident to police for documentation.
The OPP acknowledged the frustration of residents still facing outages but warned that making threats is a criminal offence. Under the Criminal Code of Canada, uttering threats can carry a sentence of up to five years in prison.
Officials say hydro crews have been working around the clock to restore power across Peterborough County following recent storms and the OPP, along with many community members, expressed their appreciation for the dedication of these workers, who have been navigating difficult weather conditions and debris to complete repairs.
