While we’re a still a while away from the May flowers, we have certainly had our fair share of April showers which has caused the Trent Severn Waterway levels to rise signficantly.
The flooding is a result of the rainfall we’ve experienced this past week, along with the snowmelt from the north moving downstream through the waterway.
Officials say that some residential properties below Lock 19 along the river may be affected by high water levels on the Otonabee River along with some other areas around the city including the Peterborough Marina.
Officials say they’ve taped off the impacted areas and are asking residents to avoid these areas, as shorelines and riverbeds could be unstable.
They say that flooding may affect road conditions in the region. Motorists should follow posted signs and obey road closures.
The City has set up three sandbag fill locations with sand, bags and shovels have been set up to help residents in this area.
They are open until 7 p.m. tonight and from 8am to 7pm tomorrow at:
- Graham Avenue at Lillian Street
- Riverside Drive at Archibald Street
- Sherin Avenue at Bensfort Road
