The City of Peterborough is joining communities across the country in celebrating National Tourism Week 2025, spotlighting the local and national impact of a sector that contributes more than $100 billion annually and supports one in 10 Canadian jobs.
Running from April 7th to 11th, the national campaign — led by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada — is themed Canada: Powered by Tourism, and emphasizes how tourism drives economies and builds communities across the country.
In Peterborough, tourism is both a cultural cornerstone and economic powerhouse. Welcoming more than three million visitors each year, the sector generates approximately $300 million for the local economy. It supports more than 3,000 jobs and sustains over 400 businesses within the Peterborough census subdivision.
“Much of what makes Peterborough a sought-after destination for visitors also makes it an incredible place to live,” said Mayor Jeff Leal. “National Tourism Week is an opportunity to celebrate the impact of tourism on our community and economy. It supports local jobs, fuels small businesses, and showcases the natural beauty and cultural vibrancy that make our city special.”
Officials say Peterborough’s profile continues to grow on the international stage, with major attractions such as the historic Trent–Severn Waterway and the newly reimagined Canadian Canoe Museum drawing national and global attention in 2025.
