Ontario Provincial Police say a 78-year-old man is dead after being struck by a falling tree while helping clean up damage from a recent ice storm.
Members of the Peterborough County OPP detachment were called to a home on Burnham Line in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township on Monday.
Police say the man had been working alongside another person to clear damaged trees from the property. Both were experienced in tree removal and had safely felled several trees before one came down unexpectedly, striking the man.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The OPP have not released the name of the deceased and say they extend their condolences to his family.
