The hockey community continues to mourn Greg Millen, the former Peterborough Petes goaltender and Sportsnet broadcaster, who passed away unexpectedly on April 7.
Born in Toronto on June 25, 1957, Millen played with the Peterborough Petes for three seasons before going on to a 14-year NHL career. After retiring in 1992, he spent over 30 years as a colour commentator, covering three Olympics and 12 Stanley Cup Finals with CBC and Sportsnet. He also founded summer goalie camps in Peterborough, co-created the Peterborough Professional Hockey Alumni Association, and was involved in many local charities.
Millen was married to his high school sweetheart, Ann, for nearly 45 years and leaves behind four children (Allie, Emily, Caroline, Charlie) and eight grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life is set for April 17 at 1pm, for friends, family and colleagues, at the Peterborough Memorial Centre (doors at 12:30 p.m.). The family requests donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation instead of flowers.
