The Peterborough Petes made franchise history on Friday night, selecting Kaden McGregor with the first overall pick in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection Draft, the team’s first time ever holding the number one pick.
The Petes were awarded the first overall pick by winning the OHL Draft Lottery on March 26, after finishing last place in the OHL, with a record of 18-41-4-5.
McGregor, a Braeside native and right-handed centerman, served as captain of the U16 AAA Ottawa Valley Titans in the HEO this past season, leading the team to a league title, while notching 38 goals and 44 assists for 82 points in 29 games. His exceptional season earned him Player of the Year honours, making him the first Titan in team history to be awarded with that title.
In the playoffs, he was just as dominant, picking up 11 goals and 13 assists in nine games. The 5-foot-11, 168-pounder’s stock rose even more at the 2025 OHL Cup, where he picked up 11 points, including 3 goals and 8 assists, in 5 games.
With McGregor now officially a Pete, the team gains a dynamic forward who is expected to make an immediate impact in the OHL.
