
Three reports of counterfeit cash being used at local businesses has police putting out a warning.
Two of the incidents happened earlier this week when it was discovered the transactions were made with counterfeit bills.
In the first incident, it was reported that a man had entered a store in the Chemong Road and Towerhill Road area on Tuesday afternoon at around 1:20pm and purchased items with five $20 bills that were later determined to be counterfeit.
In the second, it was reported that a man had used 22 counterfeit $20 bills to purchase an item at a store in the Lansdowne Street and Park Street South area. That transaction happened about 10:40am Tuesday morning.
A third incident happened early this morning just after midnight when $100 dollar bills used at a business in the area of King and George Street area were fake.
As a result of the investigation, a 20-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Uttering Counterfeit Money
- Breach of Recognizance X2
The accused is currently bound by two recognizance orders with the following condition: to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court May 20, 2025.
The investigation into these incidents is ongoing.
