Peterborough residents dealing with storm-damaged trees on their property now have more flexibility when it comes to removals.
The City has extended a temporary waiver on the usual permit requirement for removing trees that have been destroyed, destabilized, or structurally compromised as a result of the recent ice storm. The waiver is in effect until April 28, 2025.
Homeowners must still notify the City by emailing treebylaw@peterborough.ca, including photos, the property address, tree species and diameter, and a description of the tree’s condition—ideally before removal, or shortly afterward.
The waiver applies only to trees on private property. Trees on City-owned land, including boulevards, parks, and natural areas, are not eligible for removal by residents. Issues with public trees should be reported by calling 705-742-7777 (option 8) or 705-745-1386 after hours.
