Trent University is welcoming two new vice-chairs to its Board of Governors as the institution prepares to launch several high-profile initiatives aimed at expanding its campus and deepening its community impact.
Michael Lavallée and Jaime McKenna, both seasoned leaders in their fields, have been appointed vice-chairs of the board and will help guide Trent through projects like the new Seniors Village, Gigidaa Migizi College, and an Otonabee College residence.
Lavallée, who joined the Board in 2021, brings more than 20 years of experience in the Canadian seniors housing sector and has served as chair of the Board’s Finance & Property Committee. He currently leads Seasons Retirement Communities as CEO and has previously held executive roles with Chartwell Retirement Residences. At Trent, he is expected to play a central role in shaping the upcoming long-term care home on campus.
McKenna, a 1997 Trent alumna, has been on the Board since 2020 and currently sits on its Audit & Investment Committee. As president of Fengate Real Estate, she oversees a $15-billion portfolio and a growing residential and industrial pipeline. McKenna recently served as the 2024-25 CEO in Residence with the Trent School of Business, mentoring students and providing insight from her career in investment and development.
The university says their combined leadership will support Trent’s goals around sustainability, student experience, and long-term growth.
