A 21-year-old Peterborough man is facing multiple charges after a vehicle was seen being driven dangerously across sidewalks and curbs Saturday afternoon.
Police were called just after 12 pm to the Raymond Street and Fairbairn Street area following reports of a vehicle being driven on grass shoulders, sidewalks, and over curbs before becoming undrivable.
When officers arrived, they spoke with the driver and noted signs of impairment. After arresting the man, officers searched the vehicle and found both opened and unopened cans of alcohol.
The man was charged with impaired operation by alcohol and drugs, impaired operation over 80, and careless driving. He also faces charges under the Liquor Licence and Control Act for having liquor readily available and having an open container in the vehicle. In addition, he was charged under two City of Peterborough by-laws for operating a vehicle on a sidewalk and on city-owned land.
The accused was issued a 90-day automatic licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. He was released with an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on May 20.
