Peterborough Musicfest will present a full week of Irish-themed concerts this summer, in honour of the city’s Irish roots and the 200th anniversary of the Peter Robinson settlers’ arrival from Ireland.
Running from Saturday, Aug. 2 to Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at Del Crary Park, the series complements the Nine Ships 1825 Bicentennial, a commemorative event marking two centuries since nearly 2,000 Irish emigrants settled in the region.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to honour our community’s Irish heritage through music, and align our programming with a moment of shared historical reflection,” said Tracey Randall, Executive Director of Peterborough Musicfest. “The Musicfest team is thrilled to be part of this cultural moment.”
Though independently programmed, Musicfest’s Irish week aligns with the themes of the Nine Ships 1825 commemorations, reflecting what organizers call a “mutual respect” for the cultural legacy that helped shape the city.
The music kicks off Aug. 2 with Acrobat – A U2 Tribute Band, delivering high-energy covers from one of Ireland’s most iconic rock acts. On Aug. 6, emerging local fiddler Irish Millie—sponsored by Nine Ships 1825—will open for Celtic-rock favourites Mudmen. The series wraps up Aug. 9 with The Celtic Tenors, internationally acclaimed vocalists flying in from Ireland to close out the week.
“We’re thrilled to see Musicfest join the city-wide tribute to our Irish heritage with such an outstanding musical line up,” said Brendan Moher, Chair of the Nine Ships Board of Directors. “This week of Irish music enhances the commemorative spirit of the Nine Ships event, offering residents and visitors an engaging way to honour the legacy of the Peter Robinson settlers.”
All concerts are free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy a summer celebration of history, heritage and song along the shores of Little Lake.
