A Peterborough Good Friday tradition since 2005 returns this Friday in the form of The Way of the Cross procession along city streets.
Organized and hosted by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Peterborough, the procession begins with a 10 a.m. prayer service at St. Peter-in-Chains before proceeding on Hunter Street and arriving at Immaculate Conception on Rogers Street shortly after 12:30 p.m.
Featuring a number of young people, the procession highlights the Stations of the Cross, attracting visitors from outside the city as far as way as the GTA.
Diocese youth director Father Stephen DeCarlo says the motivation for organizing and holding the event hasn’t changed since day one.
Father DeCarlo notes involvement in the procession has been multi-generational for some.
Father DeCarlo notes the procession can be, and often is, quite emotional for spectators along the route, including himself.
Easter, adds Father DeCarlo, is a time of hope – something, he says, we could all use during these turbulent times.
