The OPP will conduct a province-wide seatbelt enforcement campaign over the Easter long weekend, with officers patrolling highways, roads, and communities to ensure compliance with Ontario’s seatbelt laws.
The OPP is urging all drivers and passengers to buckle up, noting that seatbelts significantly increase survival chances in collisions. The campaign aims to reduce preventable injuries and fatalities, reinforcing the message that seatbelts save lives.
With increased traffic expected during the holiday, the OPP reminds drivers that fines for not wearing a seatbelt start at $240, with two demerit points. Drivers are responsible for ensuring passengers under 16 are properly buckled, while those 16 and older must secure their own seatbelts.
The OPP wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable Easter weekend and encourages making buckling up a habit.
