A local school is putting its own spin on a well-known, Hollywood classic.
Queen Mary Public School is putting on a production of ‘Footloose’, the story a teenager who moves to a small town, where he attempts to overturn a ban on dancing enforced by the efforts of a local minister.
Grade 8 Teacher and Musical Director Teresa Laton says the idea to cover this tale came from a personal experience.
Audio PlayerIt is a student led production with approximately 80 kids (cast & crew) working together. Laton says it is fun to see older students taking on a leadership role to help out younger performers.
Audio PlayerLaton says work on the production began in September, and is thrilled it has shined a light on ‘the arts’ for some who have never had the chance to experience them in this way.
Audio PlayerShows start on Monday, April 28th and run until Friday, May 2nd, from 5 until 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are by donation, with proceeds helping to offset musical costs. All remaining funds will go towards our school nutrition program.
