The Peterborough Public Health Unit has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Severn Court Student Residence.
The Health Unit says six cases have been confirmed so far, noting that they’ve detected a COVID-19 variant among the cases.
A Section 22 Order has closed the building to visitors and requiring all residents to self-isolate.
The Health Unit is asking anyone who visited Severn Court between February 20th and 27th to self-isolate and to get tested if they have COVID-19 symptoms.
According to the Health Unit, several of the exposures occurred during a private gathering on February 20th, something Medical Officer of Health Dr. Rosana Salvaterra says was completely preventable.
Consisting of six separate buildings, the Health Unit notes that around 200 students live at the Severn Court Student Residence.
Peterborough Public Health adds that they’re working closely with Trent University and Fleming College as their contact tracing efforts remain ongoing.
