All of Peterborough region is under a severe thunderstorm watch.
The hazards associated with these storms include severe lightning, nickel size hail, wind gusting to 90 kilometers per hour and heavy downpours. The thunderstorm risk will continue through this evening.
Environment Canada says the thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon ahead of a cold front tracking through the area. “Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”
