Spontaneous donations to Peterborough Animal Care Centre are adding up in a hurry.
With the new state-of-the-art Peterborough Animal Care Centre scheduled to be completed this fall, impromptu community support of the project continues to be as impressive as it is heartwarming.
Marketing & Communications Coordinator, Kassie Graham, says construction of the Centre enters is entering its final phase.
“The spontaneity of community giving has been noticed and is extremely appreciated,” says Peterborough Humane Society (PHS) executive director Shawn Morey.
“These gifts, no matter the size, support the tireless work our dedicated team provides to care for animals in our community and beyond, and will also help immensely with building our new home where we can assist more animals, and provide game-changing opportunities for animals and their humans.”
Gary and Ferne Earle say their love of animals was the prime motivation for their gift of $20,000, noting generations of their family have adopted rescue dogs and cats.
“Companion animals have brought a lot of love into our home,” notes Ferne.
Similarly, Bob and Betty Burgess have stepped up to help in a big way. After they visited the current shelter to donate blankets and towels, staff discovered an envelope they left behind and, more notably, a cheque for $10,000.
“We thought the extra money we got from the sale of our house could help more animals,” says Bob.
Meanwhile, Registered Veterinary Technician Amanda Ferguson donated $1,000 in memory of her late dogs Coco and Jagger. Practice manager with Rice Lake Animal Hospital, Ferguson looks forward “to seeing the great work that PHS does continue to grow when in their new home.”
Our Pet Project, the capital campaign for the new centre at 1999 Technology Drive in Peterborough, is accepting donations online, by phone or in person. For more information, call 705-872-1648.
Once completed, the centre will house a low-cost Spay and Neuter Clinic, an education ad adoption centre, and a dog rehabilitation facility in partnership with the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society.
