The Peterborough U13 Tigers made history over the weekend, becoming the first Peterborough Baseball Association (PBA) team to play for a Canadian championship and the first PBA team to medal.
The Tigers, who were representing Ontario after winning the 26 team provincial qualifiers, defeated teams from Saskatchewan, British Columbia and Prince Edward Island, on route to the national championship game against the country’s top rated Quebec team, winning silver medals as the second best team in Canada.
Beau Marshall was a member of the team and says that qualifying for the nationals is something the team has been working at for the past six years.
He knew the stakes would be high going into the weekend but says that playing at such a high level was his favourite takeaway from the tournament, adding that the team formed an unbreakable bond throughout the weekend.
Marshall said that representing Peterborough and being the first PBA team to qualify for nationals was a good accomplishment and credits his coaches for the team’s success.
