A fundraiser for the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Garden Homes Project will see local skiers come together January 22nd at the Kawartha Nordic Ski Club in North Kawartha.
Organized by Wild Rock Outfitters in conjunction with the ski club, the 8-Hour Ski Relay will see sponsored teams ski without a break from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All proceeds will support an initiative that aims to create small custom-built homes for vulnerable people at risk of homelessness.
Organizer John Hauser of Wild Rock says what he sees daily on his walk to and from the store was key to his motivation to help out.
Hauser notes this event is born out of a similar pandemic-restricted event held early last year.
Hauser credits the workplace culture created by Wild Rock’s owners and management as key in inspiring employees to give back to the community.
