The Peterborough Petes closed out their series with the Ottawa 67’s last night with a 5-4 game 6 win at the Memorial Centre.
With the win, the Petes advance to the Eastern Conference championship series for the first time since 2017, where they will play for the Bobby Orr Trophy.
Leading 5-1 with 18:55 left in the third, the Petes allowed three unanswered goals down the stretch, putting fans on the edge of their seats for the final few minutes.
Despite giving the fans a brief scare, Associate Coach Andrew Verner said momentum swings are a part of junior hockey.
Verner said he wasn’t worried about his team and said they felt they deserved to win that series.
Peterborough will now play the winner of tonight’s game 7 between the Barrie Colts and North Bay Battalion.
The Petes split the regular season series with Barrie at one game apiece while losing all four games to North Bay this year.
There are local connections on both potential opponents, with Curve Lake’s Dalyn Wakely on the Battalion and Peterborough native Tyler Savard a member of the Colts.
