A dark day in Peterborough’s history is the subject of a new book by local resident Matthew Flagler.
Held To The Fire tells the story of the tragic December 1916 explosion and fire at the Quaker Oats plant that claimed 22 lives, Flagler’s great-grandfather Dennis O’Brien among the victims.
Flagler says his familial connection to the tragedy motivated his writing the book, adding that while the event has been documented in different forms over the years, his book tells the story “through the eyes of those that lived it.”
Flagler’s hope is that readers of his book will take away at least one thing.
Flagler notes he asked himself one question before putting taking the leap and putting his words to paper for what is his first book.
Held To The Fire’s publication date is August 1st but it available now for pre-order at www.amazon.ca/Held-Fire-Matthew-Flagler/dp/1738936503.
