After a tough December for the Peterborough Petes, with just 2 wins in 11 games, many were wondering if they would be buyers or sellers at the trade tradeline.
GM Mike Oke made the first big trade yesterday, hinting that they will likely be sellers, moving Anaheim Ducks prospect Konnor Smith and forward Sam McCue to Owen Sound in exchange for 1st round pick Nico Addy and Martin Matejicek, as well as a third round pick in 2026.
At just 16 years old, the 6’4 Addy is a highly touted prospect who plays a physical game and can provide offence while Matejicek is a 6’2, 205 pound defencemen who will add some toughness to the backend.
Petes Head Coach Rob Wilson says there has been lots of internal trade talk throughout the first half of the season.
Wilson says trade discussions are continuing internally, adding that he expects the West to be a bit more active.
Looking back at last year’s run, Wilson reminisces fondly about the OHL Championship win.
The deadline to move overage players is January 9th with the overall trade deadline set for January 10th.
