A dream will come true tonight for a former Peterborough Pete, with Brennan Othmann set to make his NHL debut at the iconic Madison Square Garden with the New York Rangers.
Othmann, who arrived in Peterborough last season following a trade with the Flint Firebirds, quickly became a pivotal force for the Petes, playing a crucial role in leading them to their first OHL championship since 2006. His impact in Peterborough was undeniable, and his contributions were impressive, boasting 43 points in 40 regular-season games, 25 points in 23 playoff games, and 5 points in 5 games at the Memorial Cup.
The talented forward’s success extended beyond the OHL too, when he showcased his talent on the international stage as a key player for Team Canada, helping them win back-to-back gold medals at the World Junior Hockey Championships.
Othmann has been honing his skills this season with the Rangers’ AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, where he’s made quite an impression with 9 goals and 14 assists in 28 games, earning him this much deserved call-up to the big squad.
The timing for his NHL debut tonight, which will be against Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks, couldn’t be more perfect as Othmann will be celebrating his 21st birthday tomorrow.
